Distributed Optimal Generation and Load-Side Control for Frequency Regulation in Power Systems

In order to deal with issues caused by the increasing penetration of renewable resources in power systems, this article proposes a novel distributed frequency control algorithm for each generating unit and controllable load transmission network replace conventional automatic generation control. The targets proposed are twofold. First, it is restore nominal scheduled net interarea exchanges after an active mismatch between demand. Second, optimally coordinate powers all units manner. designed controller only relies on local information, computation, peer-to-peer communication cyber-connected buses, also robust against uncertain system parameters. Asymptotic stability closed-loop under analyzed using nonlinear structure-preserving model including first-order turbine-governor dynamics. Finally, case studies validate effectiveness method.
